Devil (2010)

I’ll be the first to tell you that I am absolutely not a M. Night Shyamalan fan.  That being said, I was pleasantly surprised that he wrote the script for this movie.  I guess it goes to show that when he leaves other people to direct his movies, they actually turn out good. “Devil” is about five people trapped in an elevator and the devil is among them.  This film is interesting from that standpoint, but I found myself more interested in the Detective that’s called in to solve what is happening in the elevator.  It’s obvious that the people in the elevator are a lost cause…I mean, they are stuck in an elevator with the devil.  Detective Bowden’s character, played by Chris Messina, is a fascinating character. I loved following the story from his point of view and his reactions when he realizes that the long arm of the law wasn’t going to do any good against the supernatural.

If I have to give any criticism, it would be that the movie was predictable and the ending was abrupt.  It was kind of like watching a tv series that had to end within a certain time. I would recommend this movie because it is an enjoyable watch.  It’s more fun if you don’t try to guess what’s going to happen and just sit back and let it happen.
