After all the hype about this movie, I couldn’t wait to see it. Friend after friend told me how great this movie was and that it was a “must see” before you die movie. Sadly, I’ve come to grips that my friends aren’t very bright. Don’t get me wrong, the movie is decent, but completely lacking in the “must see” department. Insidious started out well enough. Actually, it had me intrigued. It felt like a throw back to the classic horror movie. It was tastefully made with great scares, but without the gorefest that graces the screen in almost all of today’s horror films. The movie itself revolves around a small family whose son slips into a coma after falling off a ladder in their new house. Although brain scans don’t reveal any trauma, he stays in the coma. Shortly after his “accident” strange things start happening around the house.
Insidious has the same feel as Paranormal Activity and Amityville. This fact made the movie start out pretty great to me. Unfortunately, the story line does take an unexpected twist that left me with a not-so-good impression. This movie was composed of an interesting idea that was not seen through. See it once if you want, but don’t believe the hype.
